Job Description

Trylon TSF Inc. is looking for a Production Supervisor for our Night Shift (11:00pm - 7:00am, Sunday to Thursday).  The successful candidate will be accountable for the effective output of their subordinates in the areas of Safety, Quality, Efficiency, Continuous Improvement and On Time.

Accountabilities:

Safety

  • Ensure that all plant staff are properly trained in Safety procedures and that the procedures are followed.
  • Ensure that serious Safety Hazards are addressed immediately

Quality

  • Implement the in-process quality procedures for all work centers to attain zero defects.
  • Through reports and personal inspection ensure all shifts are attaining the quality standards.
  • Ensure CWB standards are maintained.
  • Approach all problems as an opportunity for Continuous Improvement.
  • Ensure NCRs are raised for every deviation from standard practice and quality problem.
  • Ensure ISO procedures are being followed at all times.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive a continuous improvement environment on the plant floor. Listen to the plant staff about what their production problems are. Actively seek ideas for improvements in the products or processes. Work with the Continuous Improvement Facilitator to support and promote continuous improvement recommendations and implementations.
  • Be a prime driver in larger improvement projects that are initiated as part of reorganization or asset acquisition.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement Teams to support safety, eliminate waste and reduce costs.

Communications

  • Keep the Director of Manufacturing informed of the issues on the plant floor and respond to questions in a timely manner.
  • Review the WIP Summary Report and Work In Process (by job) reports daily in order to maintain visibility of priorities and ensure manpower is allocated as per the schedule
  • Manage a smooth transition between shifts and ensure that production reporting is completed and accurate.
  • Identify any barriers to meeting the production goals – material, resources, and machinery and ensure the needs of the plant are fed back to Production Supervisors, Production Control, Purchasing, and Director of Manufacturing.
  • Ensure the work centers are coordinated to feed material from Fabrication to Weld etc. as required by the production schedule.
  • Walk the floor 50 to 80 % of the day.
  • Coordination with other functions of the business as required.

Capacity - Throughput vs. standard within the constraints of the machinery and staffing

  • Analyze the production reports to determine where help is required when the standard is not being met.
  • When the standard is not met, investigate the reason and take whatever corrective action is possible or seek the required support from Production Control, Continuous Improvement Facilitator, the Director of Manufacturing or Engineering.
  • Talk directly to plant staff about the challenges that they see stopping them from meeting the production standard.
  • Recommend to the Continuous Improvement Facilitator machinery, jigs or layout changes that would increase the capacity of a work center.

Union Relations

  • Administer the plant rules, policies and the collective agreement in a fair and consistent manner.

Management & Training

  • Provide evaluations and implement corrective action or development action as required for plant staff.
  • Ensure each individual is adequately trained to do the job they are requested to do.
  • Plan, implement and track cross training to provide adequate back up for all job functions.
  • Ensure that all Administrative duties are completed daily
  • Carry out the new employee orientations
  • Coordinate the CWB weld testing to ensure all the welders are current with their certification.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years experience as a Production Supervisor in a steel fabrication plant with a track record of high quality and on time delivery.
  • Preferably a qualified CWB supervisor or willingness to be trained as a CWB supervisor.
  • Experience in a unionized environment would be a definite asset.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Experience with an integrated manufacturing system would be desirable.
